Alchemy of Nature
The Science of Solid Skincare
At The Earth and Soul Soap Company, skincare is part chemistry, part art, and entirely a labour of love. While our roots are in traditional soap making, our passion has evolved into a full range of waterless essentials—from signature cold-process soaps to innovative bath truffles and hydro-activated lotions.
We don’t use pre-made bases or industrial shortcuts. We are true formulators, building every product from the ground up. Unlike many brands that rely on generic 'off-the-shelf' formulas using cheap tallows or palm oil, every recipe here is developed in-house to create a bar that is uniquely ours.
1. Our Unique Soap Formulations
We don't believe in "one recipe fits all." We have spent countless hours refining our ratios to create bespoke solutions for different skin needs.
-
The Luxury Collection: Our signature standard. Enriched with Sweet Almond and Babassu Oil for a creamy, conditioning lather and a velvety finish.
-
The Recovery Collection: A soothing embrace for sensitive skin, featuring antioxidant-rich Mango Butter, Apricot Kernel Oil, and a 10% 'Superfat'.
-
The Shaving Collection: Engineered for the perfect glide with Bentonite Clay for "slip" and rich Coconut Milk for a protective cushion.
Beyond the Bar: Anhydrous Skincare
-
The Hydro-Activated Collection: Our "Velvet Cream" bars are a feat of formulation. Designed to be bar-to-milk, these concentrated lotions activate with water, transforming into a light, botanical milk.
-
The Bath Truffle Collection: Far more than a bath bomb, these are concentrated boosts of cocoa and shea butters that dissolve slowly to envelop the body in moisture.
-
The Mineral Soak Collection: Inspired by the mineral-rich waters of the Jurassic Coast. We create a therapeutic synergy of Magnesium Chloride, Epsom, Dead Sea, and Himalayan salts, finished with Sweet Almond oil and botanicals so you emerge silky, not stripped.
- The Balm Collection: Target treatment for severely dry, cracked, mature or weathered skin. These intensive balm formula are pure, concentrated nourishment designed to target and rescue compromised skin barriers.
2. The "Secret" Ingredients
-
Citric Acid (The Hard Water Hero): A natural chelator that prevents "soap scum" in UK hard water. In our bath salts, these minerals also help soften the water and your skin's keratin.
-
The Magic of Emulsification: In our bar-to-milk lotions, plant-derived emulsifiers act as the "bridge" that allows rich butters to mix with water, ensuring moisture is absorbed rather than just sitting on the surface.
-
Vitamin E & Natural Sugars: We use natural Vitamin E for protection in all our products, and a pinch of sugar to boost bubbly lather in our shower bars—simple secrets for high-performance skincare.
3. Traditional Soap Making Methods
We use the Cold Process method—the "slow food" movement of the soap world. By mixing at low temperatures, we preserve the natural benefits of plant ingredients and retain 100% of the natural glycerin, a humectant that draws moisture to your skin.
Every bar is cured for 4–6 weeks. This patience ensures that when the soap reaches you, it is mild, long-lasting, and at its absolute peak performance.
4. Scented & Coloured by the Earth
We turn to the "Soul" of the plant: Essential Oils. From the calming whisper of Lavender to the zest of Lemongrass, our scents are complex and therapeutic.
You won’t find artificial dyes here. We use:
-
Natural Clays: Kaolin, Bentonite, Rose, and French Green clays to purify pores.
-
Botanicals: Flowers, root powders, and charcoal for texture and the natural blush of our salts.
-
Ethical Mica: Child-labour-free mineral micas for a touch of sparkle.
5. Understanding Our Labels
Transparency is our core value. We strictly adhere to a 100% natural standard for our soaps.
-
Soap, Balm & Bath Melts: Anhydrous (waterless) and naturally self-preserving.
-
Bar-to-Milk Lotions: Because these are used in the shower, we include a tiny amount of a gentle, nature-identical preservative to keep your bar safe from bacteria after it touches water.
Decoding the Jargon: Sodium Lactate is a natural salt from fermentation; Tocopherol is natural Vitamin E; and Sodium Olivate is simply Olive Oil transformed into soap.
Our Skincare Works
This shows the result of using our Velvet Cream moisture bar and Intensive Soothing Balm on Leah's wrist to help with her dermatitis, and using our Botanical Bath Truffles and Velvet Cream moisture bar on Alan's leg to overcome dry winter skin.
